VILLA KENNEMERLAND

NEW CONSTRUCTION | CLASSIC MODERN | VILLA | NETHERLANDS

This exclusive villa in the wooded coastal area of Kennemerland has been built in accordance with future sustainability requirements and BENG standards. The analogy with American 'Lake Houses' and Adirondack style is clearly visible and makes the villa very recognizable. The project was realized in collaboration with Stock Dutch Design, who ensured a harmonious connection between the interior and exterior.

The villa was built for a family returning from America. We translated their preference for the Adirondack style and the warm appearance of those houses into a design that fits in with the sloping context of the forest plot and complies with the new regulations on sustainability. The house has a very high insulation value, balanced ventilation, and a heat pump system which, in combination with the large number of solar panels, provides the necessary energy for heating and lighting. Intelligent control and regulation ensures optimization of energy consumption. In addition to these technical installations, a great deal of attention has been paid to the use of sustainable and natural materials. For example, 'green' concrete has been used and wood is an integral part of the construction method and architecture.

The villa has a vertical division in terms of both materials and functional use. In addition, the orientation of the various rooms towards the sun has been decisive for the design. The sloping ground level has been used to create a partially sunken basement, which is finished with nuanced bricks in natural shades in the visible areas. The driveway is located at this low basement level and provides access to the parking facility and the studio. The basement also houses the installation rooms. The main entrance, located at the level above the basement, can be reached via a sloping walkway.

The elevated ground floor, like the basement, features the same facing brick with slim, dark-colored aluminum window frames. The slim facades allow beautiful light to flood into the entire house, but especially into the 'orangerie'. Beautifully oriented towards the morning sun, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the surrounding nature. The master bedroom and adjoining rooms are located in a separate extension that makes use of and overlooks the quiet, wooded part of the garden. All other regular living areas are also located on this floor.

The upper floor is constructed entirely from a timber frame facade system fitted with sustainably modified wooden facade elements. The distinctive roof is also constructed from a timber frame system and fitted with flat ceramic roof tiles and a large number of solar panels. The 'orangerie' has a zinc standing seam roof to accentuate its shape. The upper floor serves as accommodation for children and guests. There are three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. A separate living room has been created in the center of the upper floor so that it can be used as a separate living space.

The entrance hall is the connecting factor between the three floors. A large void with an open staircase creates a social connection and a sense of togetherness despite the individual living spaces on the different floors. This connection between spaces is a central theme in the layout of the villa. Long sightlines combined with lockable steel and glass doors allow you to create your own space without feeling isolated. The connection between spaces, residents, and nature makes the villa distinctive and special.

INTERIOR

The colorful interior was designed by STOCK Dutch Design. The rich exterior design is complemented by the lavishly finished rooms, each with its own character. No two rooms are alike, yet they all share a sense of cohesion.
