As an architectural firm, we specialize in the design of new construction and renovation of villas, homes, apartments, and monuments. We work in a style that strikes a subtle balance between modern and early 20th-century classic modernism: clear, precise, and timeless, with a recognizable contemporary signature.
Our architecture is rooted in the principles of classical modernism and is reinterpreted by us for the present day. We design rationally and carefully, with attention to space, use, and experience. From this classical foundation, we enrich our designs with contemporary influences that add openness, warmth, and refinement. This translates into fluid transitions between indoors and outdoors, tranquility through reduction, and a strong focus on light, materials, and detail.

People live in our homes, enjoy their families and their surroundings, and find relaxation there. In close consultation with our clients, we supervise the entire construction process: from exploration and land purchase to design and implementation. DENOLDERVLEUGELS Architects & Associates was founded in 2010 by architects Bas den Older (1971) and Florentijn Vleugels (1971), both of whom graduated in 1996 from Eindhoven University of Technology in Architecture and Urban Planning. From 1996 to 2008, both worked as project architects on leading projects at renowned firms in Amsterdam and Eindhoven. We operate with a core team within a network of Associates, comprising experienced professionals with academic work and thinking levels. Our team members are true team players: results-oriented and driven by craftsmanship. For each project, we carefully select the team based on the necessary competencies and specialisms to ensure an optimally tailored team every time.
MODERN VERSUS CLASSIC
When designing homes for a wide variety of clients in diverse locations, we always aim to strike the perfect balance between modern and classic. Never old-fashioned classic, and never 'showroom' modern. People live their lives in our homes, enjoying their families and surroundings. We design and build a true home for the residents. Because of our clients' different needs and contexts, the outcome is never the same, but always well-thought-out and custom-made, resulting in timeless icons – true modern classics.
To strike a balance between classic and modern, we work with stylistic elements from different eras and continents, resulting in a contemporary eclectic fusion of styles. Influences from early 20th-century classical modernism (the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and John Lautner), Latin Modernism with Brazilian influences, and Japanese design philosophy. The use of opposing forces has developed into an important principle of our work that runs through all levels of our designs. Closure versus openness, transparency versus opacity, hard versus soft, horizontal versus vertical. A subtle combination of these opposites creates balance and harmony.
