MODERN VILLA CS
NEW CONSTRUCTION | MODERN | VILLA | NETHERLANDS
Modern villa in a wooded area in the south of the Netherlands. This 'Modern Classic' features large windows to optimally enjoy the view of the wooded garden and to 'bring the outdoors in'.
The house covers approximately 545 m² and has two levels with a basement, built in an L-shape. The living areas are located on the ground floor, while the upper floor features bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms, an extensive master suite, and a laundry room. One of the wings of the house facing the garden has been converted into a chill-out area for the children, connected to yet separate from the other living areas. The basement houses the technical room, storage, and relaxation areas, which are provided with daylight and views via a sunken patio.

The L-shaped main structure, enclosing the terraces and outdoor spaces, provides shelter and also creates a feeling of comfort and security. Large sliding glass doors adjacent to the pool and terraces provide transparency and wide sightlines, ensuring an optimal connection between interior and exterior.

MATERIALIZATION VILLA
The materialization consists of broken natural stone, light beige stucco, dark gray slim metal window frames and roof edges, complemented by warm wooden accents in the facade finish. The warm, understated use of materials and the subtle interplay of horizontal and vertical elements result in a modern villa with a timeless appearance.

DESIGN
When designing a home, we strive to find the perfect balance between modern and classic. Never old-fashioned classic and never 'showroom' modern. People live their lives in our homes, enjoying their families and their surroundings. We design and build a home for the residents. Due to the different needs and contexts of the client, the result is never the same, always well thought out and tailor-made, creating timeless architecture, modern classics.

THE BALANCE MODERN CLASSIC
To strike a balance between modern and classic, we work with stylistic elements from different eras, resulting in a contemporary combination of styles. A balance between different forces that influence the design. This friction is necessary to find new solutions and combinations for each specific project. The use of opposing forces has developed into an important principle of our work that runs through all the different levels of the designs. Closure versus openness, transparency versus opacity, hard versus soft, horizontal versus vertical. A subtle combination of these opposites creates harmony and balance.

OPEN FLOOR PLAN
Homes are social systems of interconnected rooms and functions. They respond to their residents and their surroundings. Connection with the outside world and with each other is the most important principle for organizing the internal structure. We strive to visually connect spaces by creating long sightlines through the house. Spaces and views are layered both horizontally and vertically. The entire villa can be experienced in all directions, resulting in a comfortable, safe, and social atmosphere. The use of layering and horizontal sightlines is clearly visible in the design of the villa's exterior, combined with vertical elements to create balance. Interior and exterior work together in a subtle symbiosis.

HORIZONTAL LINES
The long lines of the internal layout are reflected in the use of strong horizontal lines in the villa's exterior. These horizontal lines, in the form of large overhangs and roof edges, serve several purposes. The first is an extrusion or layering of the ground plane, lifting it to create living spaces on multiple levels. They connect the building to the earth and the horizon. They provide shade and prevent direct sunlight from overheating the house, contributing to a healthy, energy-efficient climate by reducing the amount of energy needed for cooling. The generous overhangs extend into verandas that are integrated into the building concept and form the basis for roof terraces. In this way, we create outdoor spaces that are connected to the living spaces inside.
