AMALIA TUNNEL HILVERSUM
The municipality of Hilversum, in collaboration with the province of North Holland, has drawn up the 'Integrated Accessibility Plan for Hilversum and surroundings'. Part of this plan is the construction of a tunnel at the intersection of Oostereind and Soestdijkerstraatweg. Through traffic on Oostereind will be diverted through this tunnel. Turning traffic and traffic coming from Soestdijkerstraatweg will use the turbo roundabout located above the tunnel. The design opts for a high-quality finish for the tunnel walls and edges of the viaduct, in line with the key points of the 'Handboek Buitenring' (Outer Ring Road Manual): attractive, sustainable, functional, and safe. The wall finish of the tunnel consists of graded and chiseled natural stone in combination with long-format masonry – Kolumba stone – in horizontal and vertical bond. The tapered viaduct edge, finished with natural stone, offers space for planting and thus forms a green entrance to the tunnel.
