LIGHT NEEDLE AND VIADUCT EINDHOVEN
From December 21, 2009, at the opening of the light year 2010, Eindhoven will have a new landmark. State-of-the-art design, construction, and lighting technology come together in this impressive icon for Eindhoven, the 'city of light'. At 50 meters tall, it towers above one of the six intersections on the ring road and forms an important landmark that reinforces the fabric of the city.
The 300 color-shifting LED modules form a beacon. A suitable lighting program will be run during special events. The light needle thus acts as a mirror for events in the city. Random patterns that slowly shift in intensity and color create a subtle yet impressive light show. The combination of art, efficiency, and technology reflects the core values of Eindhoven.

The transition between the columns and the spire itself is made of composite shell sections. This allows the columns to flow smoothly into the spire.
