2016 AMSTERDAM APARTMENT A2
DENOLDERVLEUGELS renovated an apartment (225 m²) in the monumental apartment building 'Zonnehoek' in Amsterdam, designed in 1916 by F.A. Warners (1888-1952). Characteristic elements of the existing building were combined with modern and contemporary interior elements. In close collaboration with the client, an interior has been created that does justice to the monumental building and at the same time provides a colorful and contemporary response to modern family life.
The old courtyard was the ideal starting point for the design of the kitchen-diner and forms the heart of the apartment, around which all the other rooms are positioned. The bright, characteristic structure of the building has been preserved. Monumental hallways connect the various rooms, and the monumental alcove with fireplace provides a glimpse into the past. From the kitchen, there is a view of the front room, which is furnished as a living room, and the back room with monumental bookcases adjacent to the spacious garden. The garden adds a unique oasis of tranquility to this apartment in the middle of the city. A studio has been built in the garden with large glass fronts where beautiful northern light provides ideal conditions for creating works of art. The bright structure of the interior is complemented by a colorful palette of finishes and decorations, with geometric patterns forming a central theme. These geometric patterns can be found in the wallpaper and upholstery, but also in the lighting. The lighting plan ensures optimal illumination of interior elements, colors, and works of art. In addition, the characteristic parts of the building are highlighted. The color theme is warm, with no shying away from powerful tones. The back room is entirely petrol blue and contrasts beautifully with the other softer tones such as gold, pale blue, and green. The interior feels warm, rich, and atmospheric. A home to enjoy, perfectly tailored to the wishes of its residents.

TESTIMONIAL
DENOLDERVLEUGELS has an excellent sense of spatial layout and a keen eye for lines and symmetry. Exactly what we were looking for in the renovation of this apartment, a former physical therapy practice.
Working with DENOLDERVLEUGELS is teamwork. They are creative, solution-oriented, and think along with you. What's more, their designs leave room for your own ideas, making the project the result of a joint effort and ensuring that it truly becomes your "own" home.
My husband and I had very specific wishes regarding layout and color scheme. Thanks to DENOLDERVLEUGELS, these were integrated into the design in a distinctive way. For example, we wanted the kitchen to be the beating heart of our home. Using the existing structure, they created an open yet intimate connection between the heart and the surrounding spaces. They were the perfect sounding board when it came to choosing the interior elements. They have a keen sense of what suits you and how much freedom you want in this regard, recommend the appropriate elements or the suitable supplier, accompany you when desired or allow you to search and try things out yourself, after which they subtly offer their opinion. Because we had clear ideas ourselves, this was the ideal form of collaboration and we are really very happy with this beautiful end result."
